Kaleme: Three weeks have passed since the 22nd of Bahman rally, which has prompted many discussions and comments. What is your opinion?

Mousavi: It is not the first time that the ceremonies of 22 Bahman have been held in our country. These ceremonies are in remembrance of the 1979 rallies [and have taken place] on different occasions with more than a million people [taking part]. Every year, those who support the revolution participate in these ceremonies, in which traditional institutions such as mosques and religious assemblies play an important role in organization. Usually, each year’s ceremonies are influenced by important events that have taken place that year as well as the country’s political atmosphere. … Continue Reading

Daryoush Mohammad Poor is a well know Iranian blogger based in London.

One of the most important aptitudes of the Green Movement is its freedom from structure of power and its ability to internally criticize itself and evolve accordingly. Aside from observing techniques used by the current political power to silence and hijack the voice of the “others”, one of the most important lessons that can be learned from 22nd of Bahman is the fact that both the Green Movement supporters and detractors have wide support. … Continue Reading

I deeply appreciate the huge turnout on the rally for the 22nd of Bahman[1] despite all the security pressure and the restrained political atmosphere. The ceremonies this year were held at a time when all political factions, prominent figures and grand Ayatollahs had invited people to participate in the hopes of moving toward a resolution to the current crisis. … Continue Reading

Last night, Mehdi Karoubi met with Mir Hossein Mousavi for two hours. They praised the people’s peaceful demonstration on February 11th (22 Bahman) and criticized those who wanted to exploit the presence of different social groups for their political agenda.

During this meeting they also criticized the violent extremists of Tehran and other major cities – extremists who obstructed the peaceful demonstration using violence. According to Mousavi and Karoubi, these extremists are responsible for the complete militarization and environment of fear that appeared for the first time in thirty years, on a day that belongs to every Iranian – a day celebrating the victory of the Revolution. … Continue Reading

Ali Shakoori-Raad is a well known figure within Iran’s reform movement. He is a member of the central committee of the reformist party The Islamic Iran Participation Front, as well as a former MP.

In its political trial against government supporters during the annual 22 Bahman celebrations [commemorating the victory of the Islamic Revolution on 11 February 1979], the Green Movement proved unable to prevail. The greens had announced beforehand that they would participate in the parade while displaying green symbols, but despite being present in large numbers they were unable to show green in public.

The presence of supporters of the Green Movement on 22 Bahman, which was in response to the call of the leaders of the movement, as well as political parties, is much appreciated. Even though the widespread presence of security forces and police prevented them from revealing their green signs, everyone knows that the massive increase of people in this year’s demonstration, compared that of previous years, is due to the presence of the greens.  … Continue Reading

Accounts of 22 Bahman from Tehran – Part 3

but I have chosen to be silent. I didn’t get those who saw 22 Bahman as the final day, nor did I get those who thought something magnificent is going to happen. And now…I don’t get all this hopelessness and depression. reforms is fuelled by hope, and it does not involve a move like a revolution. I know this well. It is important that all of us know that we are here to build a better future. Why do we think that to build such a thing we must conquer the streets? … Continue Reading
