In his first official interview after the elections with Islamic Republic Daily, Mir Hossein Mousavi recognized tearing up the picture of Imam [Khoemini] as a very suspicious incident and an as against the values [of the Islamic Revolution.]
In response to the question regarding tearing up the picture of Imam [Khomeini] and the display of this action from Islamic Republic Broadcasting and foreign media, Mousavi said: “Honorable Imam Khomeini is the same person who revived religion in this recent century, a great symbol of justice for all nations for resistance against oppressors. All nations, specially the Muslim nations and the Iranians are great debt to him. Certainly, no just or devout person would bring himself to commit such disrespect to his picture.”
Mir Hossein Mousavi added: “Those who even distantly sympathize with me would never allow disrespect to the honorable Imam Khomeini. They view maintaining his respect as essential. I am confident that university students would never commit such and act transubstantiation because we all know that university students devoted to Imam [Khomeini] and are ready to do anything for the ideals of Imam.”
Mousavi further added: “I do not have accurate information that such a thing has even happened. In the same way we have no clear information on the identities of those who committed these transubstantiating acts. Anyhow, if such an act has indeed been committed it would be very suspicious, not to mention that broadcasting such an anti-revolutionary scene from the Islamic Republic broadcasting was not the right thing to do. We do not expect more from foreign media to take advantage of such scenes work against the establishment but broadcasting the same act from an institution that owes its very existence to the revolution, the people and Imam Khomeini is just unacceptable.”
