Karroubi Responds to Larijani Requesting a Meeting with the Heads of Establishment

In the name of God, the merciful and the compassionate,

To the honorable Parliament,
The honorable Mr. Larijani,

Greetings. As you are well aware, an  enduring chronicle was born with our nation’s great and glorious participation in the tenth presidential elections. If the authorities had taken proper care, people’s participation could have been an inexhaustible asset for the Islamic Republic of Iran. It could have also endowed the establishment with global political legitimacy. Sadly, a deep nationwide divide has been triggered with the incompetence that respective authorities have displayed towards the ensuing demonstrations: a violent reaction to the peaceful rallies of millions that caused great harm to a large number of demonstrators, the murder of some, and … Continue Reading

Full text of Mousavi’s speech in a meeting with a group of university professors

Epilogue

Mousavi gave this speech to almost 70 university professors a few days after the election. All of the professors were detained and questioned after the speech. They were mostly released soon after expect four of the more influential ones who were gradually released later.

The speech contains important messages regarding Mousavi’s thoughts, beliefs, future course of action, plans, platforms, and even some insight into his own character as he is talking to a group with some of whom he has some personal connections. Here he talks about his interpretations of what has really happened, and what he’s attempting to do. Most of the actions Mousavi’s camp has done are put into context when one knows about the frameworks that Mousavi outlines here.

We have stayed loyal to the original text as much as possible, even to Mousavi’s sometimes seemingly hesitant but still very meaningful wording. The hope is this can reveal even more insight into this man’s vision and personality. Hopefully such translations would remove the layers of ambiguity along with over and under expectations from opposition leaders of Iran. Thanks for reading. … Continue Reading

Mousavi: Meeting with Youth for National Youth Day

Source: Ghalamnews.ir
Monday, August 3rd, 2009

A  group of young people met with Mir Hossein Mousavi for Youth Day. In this meeting, the audience offered their analysis of current events. Mir Hossein Mousavi followed by expressing his views and analysis on the current issues in the country.

“What occurred after the election was indeed bitter but there were positive outcomes and valuable consequences following these events. This was because the serious predicaments that have existed in our country were revealed in front of us. These problems were partly concealed and we did not notice them before. This is an enormous achievement. During the election when we discussed the challenges and problems, maybe we did not think/feel that they threatened the structure and foundation of our country and society. But now people feel this with their flesh and blood and everyone admits we are facing serious quandaries. To admit to a problem proceeds an attempt to resolve it. Sometimes we tend to deny that we are facing a problem. Before the election this was the prevalent atmosphere. But the events after the election made clear that we are facing serious issues”. … Continue Reading

Mir Hossein Mousavi: IRIB’s Performance Benefits Foreign Adversary

(source Ghalamnews.ir )

Alluding to IRIB’s (Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting) abundant waves of propaganda against the rightful demands of people, Mir Hossein Mousavi said:

“There’s a political motivation to intermix the natural demands of people with that of foreigners and to embark on increasing tensions and waging a propaganda war that would represent people’s self-developing protests as in line with the benefits of foreign regimes or as their interference. However, if we look closely we’d notice that during the last two months no one has served to benefit the foreigners as much as they have [IRIB]. ” … Continue Reading

A Defense of the Islamic Republic by Any Means?!!

Mohammad Motahari

(source: Tabnak , Date: July 29th, 2009)

Mohammad Motahari is the son of the late Morteza Motahari, who is considered among the important influences on the ideologies of the Islamic Republic.

————————-

I can say with utmost certainty that for the most part, those who have turned away from the Islamic Republic of Iran in the past thirty years have done so because of a nine letter word: injustice. These people have either seen injustice themselves with no one to answer them, or they have seen injustice against others  – like the case of the wife of Saeed Emami. But no matter how long they’ve waited for someone to answer them, nothing has happened. There is much pain and sorrow to speak of, I will only resort to mentioning a few points.

1.  Defending an Islamic system via Un-Islamic and inhumane means is as effective as trying to defend the prophet’s values by alcohol consumption. Certain actions carried out against the protesters and their families by a very influential group within the system – whose face will be saved at all costs – shows that they are able to act as tyrannically as they please as long as long as they think they are rooting out foreign forces – even at the cost of disgracing the system, and the Imam [Khomeini].

2. It seems that in our country, everything, except one very specific thing, can undergo negligence even when matters concern the clerical establishment or Islamic law. And that exception is regarding matters pertaining to “security”. This goes so far that asking for justice in such matters [security] is at one with supporting Israel. … Continue Reading

Ali Larijani Congratulated Mir Hossein Mousavi on Election Day

Ali Larijani Congratulated Mir Hossein Mousavi on Election Day

Ali Larijani the current speaker of Parliment is a conservative figure who is believed to be a close adviser to Supreme Leader Ayatollah Khamenei . The meeting Ali Larijani and Ahmadinejad held last week regarding the appointment of cabinet members did not end in any results as tabnak reported.  Following the meeting, Larijani sent a letter signed by 200 members of Parliament criticizing Ahmadinejad for not consulting them before choosing cabinet members.

Today Rajanews, a pro-Ahmadninejad news site published an interview with a Member of Parliament questioning Ali Larijani’s PhD degree.  He also said:  “What Ali Larijani did on the evening of election day, calling Mousavi and congratulating him for winning the election is inexcusable. As a head of Parliament and someone who clearly has access to classified and firsthand information calling Mousavi president even before the polls closed, encouraged him to take aggravating and dissonant positions after the election results were announced. Mousavi’s behavior has compromised the security and safety of people,  harmed the country and damaged the prestige and authority of the system. Is the act of meeting those who have turned against our regime, and emboldening Mousavi to provoke people and lead street riots, a sign of following the supreme leader?”

A Letter from Karoubi to Rafsanjani

A Letter from Karoubi to Rafsanjani

(Source: Agh Bahman)

Mehdi Karoubi has asked Hashemi Rafsanjani to form a committee to investigate rumors and allegations regarding serious mistreatment of detainees.

Hossein Karoubi, his son, said : “My father wrote this letter to Mr. Hashemi Rafsanjani and sent it to him privately. He insisted that Mr. Hashemi Rafsanjani reply to the letter and take appropriate action. Unfortunately Mr. Hashemi Rafsanjani did not reply to the letter. My father stressed that if he does not receive a response or see appropriate measures taken within ten days, he will make the letter public.”

Hossein Karoubi continued: “The letter is based on Mr. Karoubi’s concerns. He is also worried about what foreign groups may say about the treatment of the detainees. These days, a great number of people who have been released have come to see my father. They have retold their accounts of the conduct and behavior of the officers and officials while they were in custody. They have described what they have seen or heard in detail. Evidently the behavior and action of some personnel, particularly toward women and girls, does not measure up to the reputation of the Islamic Republic or any other regime for that matter.” … Continue Reading

Statement by the Islamic Iran Participation Front

Statement by the Islamic Iran Participation Front

(From the Koran): And he who has faith and whose acts rightly shall never fear tyranny.

(Source: Mowjcamp) These days are defining moments for our people and our nation and we are witnessing events which are bitter and painful and yet, are instructive and will pave the day for a better tomorrow. The Islamic Republic which is the result of more than 100 years of hard work by the people of Iran and their enlightened leaders and aims for the rule of law, democracy, freedom, security, development and … which was achieved in the Islamic Revolution with the courageous leadership of Imam Khomeini, which was supposed to be the ultimate manifestation of the rule of God and human values in the political and social spheres, has now, in the midst of its fourth decade, shown itself in a way that does not have the tiniest hint of congruence with those values, and is not even inline with rational governance in democratic or semi-democratic states and can only be compared to despotic monarchies. But the Islamic Republic of Iran was established on the basis of religious teachings, to free human beings from slavery, to instruct all towards God, and to create a government based on justice.

Thus, the essence of an Islamic state can be nothing but the voluntary acceptance of the state by its citizens, and a kindly two-way relationship between those who govern and the people. And that is why Imam Khomeini turned to the vote of the people to establish this system and then proceeded to rely on the vote of the people in writing and compiling the constitution. In practice too, he always relied on the belief that “the measure is the vote of the people” and the absolute rule of law. … Continue Reading
