Majid Ansari: “Detainee Abuse is an Established Fact Now”

Source: IRNA
Saturday, August 12th, 2009

Majid Ansari, a former member of parliament and a member of  the influential reformist party, The Association of Combatant Clerics – Rouhaniyoun Mobarez – spoke to IRNA (the Islamic Republic News Agency) regarding the allegations of detainee rape:  “This is an established fact now and a report has been sent to high officials.”

In response to the IRNA reporter who asked about the proof for the allegations in Karoubi’s letter  he replied: “If a court convened for this matter Mr. Karoubi would prove these claims. I doubt IRNA will fully cover my words. What is the point of this interview?”

The reporter replied: “if you talk, there is not reason IRNA will not publish it.”

Ansari continued:  “IRNA is unfortunately biased. It is a news organization that belongs to Mr. Ahmadinejad and not the public. Unfortunately what Mr. Karoubi has said in the letter is valid. One, as Imam Ali said, desires death when he hears these atrocities have occurred in the Islamic Republic. It has not been a single case but multiple cases.” When asked why Karoubi has written the letter to Rafsanjani instead of the head of Judiciary , he said “Perhaps he did not have any hopes that the letter would be investigated if it is sent to Mr Shahroudi, therefore he addressed the letter to Mr. Rafsanjani as the head of the Assembly of Experts with the hopes that he discusses it with the leader.” [Karoubi had earlier sent a letter to Shahroudi]

Thanks, You are too kind. We are currently trying to organize ourselves. Our goal is said to fill for the lack of accurate raw news material without interpretations or biases. Our translations may not at times flow as smoothly as desired, but you can be certain that this would be at the cost of sticking to the original leaving the interpretations to our intelligent readers.
