Friends and relatives of Dr. Ebrahim Yazdi have expressed concern over the state of his health and have appealed to international organizations for help in securing his release.

A Jaras reporter  in Tehran has confirmed that Yazdi, a member of the Islamic Revolution Council, had been spotted in prison attire in the revolutionary court on Moalem St last week. He had been brought there to extend his temporary arrest warrant and appeared to look extremely haggard and unwell. In addition, his family had been asked to bring him medicine and personal hygiene items. Dr. Yazdi is 79 years old and suffers from several ailments. Two years ago he traveled abroad to be treated with chemotherapy and underwent surgery months ago. Yazdi’s family and friends are seriously concerned for his health. A member of the Freedom Movement of Iran who wished to remain anonymous told the Jaras reporter: “We plead for all human rights organizations, as well as all those who care about humanity to help secure our leader’s freedom so that he can proceed with his medical treatment. His life is in danger.”

Dr Yazdi has already been arrested twice over the past year. During the latest incident, officials from the Ministry of Intelligence arrived at his home at 3am on 28 December 2009 (the day afer the bloody Ashura protests).. Two weeks ago, counter to the constitution, the Iranian government had completely prohibited the oldest Islamic political party in Iran from engaging in any political activity. Several party members, as well as family members of the party leaders have been arrested..

Yazdi was also held in detention for 72 hours during the aftermath of last year’s presidential election, during the time that he was hospitalized.. Some say that he is the oldest prisoner in Iran.

I’m sorry that Dr. Yazdi is in prison but as ex-CIA and one of the functionaries of the Carter administration who was placed at Khomeini’s side to accomplish the misdeeds that he accomplished, he should understand that everyone pays a price for their mistakes. I’m sure that his friend Mr. Ramsey Clark however is busy working on his behalf; I’m sure he’ll be freed very quickly. And if not, well, it’s unfortunate but all of us Iranians suffered for this revolution and this is the price for the choices that he made.

  4. Pedestrian says:

Ben, if you are not aware, Yazdi served in office less than a year and has been sitting at home (or prison) ever since. Operating the inner evils of the IRI from his home you claim?
If you’d like to back up your accusations with FACTS, we at Khordaad88 would love to hear them. Yes, we’ve all suffered before and after the revolution, and from your words it seems this suffering has left many of us blind and bitter.

  5. Rincon Ken-Obi says:

Beli Sharif should be ashamed for his lack of compassion. Denying anyone medical treatment is evil.

  6. bob ( amir ) says:

well the issue here is the government is in a deep shit no one can close eye to this fact , if they think they can stop the rising anger among people so they are stupid , but personally think that they already know everything , but they are thinking that because of all the power sources that they are holding , they may confront this problems by shutting medias , newspaper , imprisonment, and this sort of of forces . this time is different fellas , just look how many percent they are acting according to islamic law ? i can predict if the government didn’t change is attitude towards people matters , then they may except another revolution to take place .
